The present timepiece is an extremely rare 1970s special order extra wide haute couture diamond set bangle watch with ultra rare teak wood dial and diamond set bezel.
During this timeframe while Omega traveled to the moon on Apollo, they simultaneously pushed new technology heights on the ground with never before designs and technology in movements, case designs & dials. Omega had just established themselves in this period as one of the most elite watch firms from being associated with the olympics and even being worn by James Bond so as commercial air travel became available to the public, the firm invented a series of extra wide very high fashion haute couture bangle watches to be worn on the runway and meet the new needs of the new “jet setter” society that could fly to London from Paris or Hong Kong from New York and would require a timepiece that can be worn to any occasion, day or night and with any attire: cocktail or casual.

As demonstrated by the present example, these timepieces required a higher sense of fashion which is precisely what this timepiece established as it has a much wider bangle bracelet width then most watches so it appears more like a mid size cuff or bangle when worn and the teak wood dial is also overly large at 31mm by 26mm making it a definite fashion statement as high fashion luxury bracelet that can tell the time .

In addition, in order to further inject luxury and style into the timepiece’s designs, there was a heavy emphasis on incorporating new materials as a result of the introduction of ultra thin movements that mad it possible for firms to now design timepieces with jade, coral, lapis pearl. While these other materials were made throughout different decades, Of all the different dial materials, iconically and primarily only the 1970s the use of teak wood as the present example is designed was used only and as a result is is considered one of most rare and unique of all dial materials a collector can find as so few examples were ever commissioned with it as it was highly expensive to obtain and extremely difficult to work with as its density would easily perish when cut.

Also interesting to note, teak wood in this timeframe was reserved by the most elite firms and famous designers in every decorative or luxury space from leather chairs to Patek Philippe solar clocks, Van Cleef jewelry designs for the Kennedys and the fastest and most expensive exotic sports car interiors, the present timepiece joins this unique high end design tier as it also incorporates a uniquely a very rare perfect condition teak wood dial, which is also further accented 32 brilliant round cut diamonds to make for an extremely dramatic effect when combined with the oversized dial and much wider cuff style design so it appears far more as a luxurious bangle then that of a watch.
