Description

Patek Philippe 5960P Annual Calendar Chronograph in Platinum with a Gorgeous Anthracite Grey Dial. Self-Winding Automatic Movement with a Gorgeous Skeleton Exhibition Sapphire Case Back. Fitted on a Brown Leather Crocodile Strap with a Foldover Platinum Deployant Buckle.

The 40.5mm diameter solid two-body case is one of the largest Patek Philippe watches ever produced. It features downturned lugs, and angled bezel which are polished. This timepiece features a magnificent and rare Anthracite dial with applied hour markers with adjacent luminous dots and luminous hands. The chronograph subdial is oversized, and accordingly very legible. The chronograph hours scale is printed in blue while the minutes scale is in red. The associated chronograph hour and minute hand are the same color as their scales for ease in reading the elapsed time.

The dial has applied luminous faceted baton hour markers, luminous dot hour indices, and feuille hands with luminous inserts, as well as a center sweep seconds hand. It has a perimeter minute and 1/5th seconds scale, and a subsidiary dial for the combined 30/60-minute and 12-hour totalizer. There is a 55-hour +/- power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock, and there are apertures for the day, date, and month. It has a round button fly-back chronograph, and it's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet. The 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph 5960P has a mechanical automatic self-winding caliber CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H movement that's rhodium-plated with circular Cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's stamped with the Patek Philippe seal. It's constructed with 40 jewels, 456 parts, and a straight-line lever escapement. There is a shock absorber mechanism and the patented Patek Philippe Gyromax balance that compensates for cold, heat, isochronism, and 6 positions. It has a self-compensating free-sprung Spiromax balance spring, and a 21K gold rotor with oil-free ball bearing and zirconium balls and the Calatrava emblem. This was Patek Philippe's first in-house self-winding Chronograph movement, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz).

If ever there were a rare modern Patek wristwatch, this would be it. Here is Patek Philippe's first automatic chronograph in their 170+ year blue-ribbon history. It's also Patek's first flyback chronograph. And, due to the caliber's unique construction, the central chronograph seconds hand can be operated continuously (to serve as a conventional seconds hand) without harming the mechanism or adversely affecting accuracy.

The reference 5960 also features the first completely in-house chronograph caliber from Patek since the early 1980s. (In the interim years, all of Patek's chronograph calibers have been built from Nouvelle Lemania ebauches). Finally, this chronograph is the first to feature the 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph indicators in the same subdial.

Overall, this watch is not your grandfather's typical Patek Philippe. It was a hit from the minute it was released. This watch takes Patek to an entirely new stratosphere; making it a watch you can wear and enjoy both casually and formally. The strap is a hand-sewn Patek  crocodile with a foldover Patek Philippe deployant clasp.
