Description

Specialized watch collectors are well aware of the dizzying array of references within the Speedmaster family. Through the iconic watch’s long production life, the “Mark” series of Speedies has been chugging along right next to the regular “Moonwatch” variety. The first of these, the Mark II, was introduced in 1969 with subsequent versions named similarly coming along in 1971, 1973, and 1984. Each one features a tonneau shaped case and a prominent tachymeter chapter ring. So the Speedie 176.0012 – which features these characteristics – is a bit of an oddity. Not officially designated as a “Mark” version, it has come to be regarded by collectors as the “Mark 4.5”; an unofficial member of the special “Mark” club. Featuring the Mark IV case and the Mark V movement, today’s timepiece is a serious tool watch ready for action. The dial is packed with the helpful chronograph features that have made the Speedmaster famous while the bracelet adds to the vintage mystique thanks to it’s 3-link design that integrates easily with the hidden lugs. And capping off this watch’s special heritage, it is one of only a few Speedmasters to pair the Speedie design with the Lemania 5100 movement – an engine used in the Speedmaster “Holy Grail” 376.0822.
