Description

Bovet was founded in 1822 by Edouard Bovet for the purpose of manufacturing watches exclusively for the Chinese market. He based his company's headquarters in London due to the ease of transportation provided by the East India Company's frequent ships, but the brand's manufacturing facilities were set up in Fleurier, Switzerland, by one of his three brothers.
Bovet wasn't the first (nor the last) manufacturer to target China, so it had to contend with the likes of Jaques Ullmann and Vacheron Constantin, among others. Đ•ven so - and despite their high price - Bovet's timepieces proved exceedingly popular.
While from 1820 onward Vacheron Constantin dominated imperial northern China, Bovet remained the market leader in the more populated south part of the country until 1864, when the Chinese market collapsed. Today, Bovet is recognized as one of the most collectible vintage brands, and watches like the one on offer here are looked upon favorably by enthusiasts since they more than lived up to the standards set by Vacheron Constantin.

This military chronograph is powered by a rare version of the venerated Landeron cal. 51 that was only produced in 1947. It is in superb condition, is triple signed (dial, caseback & movement), and was thoroughly serviced by our in-house watchmaker.

Covered by a limited warranty of 1 year, starting on the date of purchase.
