This rare, manual-winding, stainless steel Universal Genève Aero-Compax has recently been serviced by our watchmakers and is in good vintage condition. It features a chronograph and a ‘memory’ register and is guaranteed for authenticity.
The Aero-Compax model is interesting in the sense that it has some military provenance with the peculiar and rarely seen complication of the watch suggesting so. With the subsidiary dial at 12 o’clock being a ‘memory’ register, where the user could set the time with the crown at 9 o’clock in order to establish a start time when timing, this was especially useful for pilots and military personnel to mark the start of a mission.
This watch features four sub-registers on each pole, with the aforementioned ‘memory clock’ at 12 o’clock, the running seconds at 9 o’clock and the minute counter and hour counter at 3 and 6 o’clock respectively for the chronograph function. The dial does have some tarnishing to it, but its script remains clear and it is a testament to the fact that the dial is unrestored. The hands are original new old stock Universal Genève blued steel sword hands, and the original UG service box for them will be provided with the watch. The patina on the luminous material of the hands have aged to a creamy yellow, uniform with the off-colour patina of the silvery white dial.
The medium-sized case has a rounded polished bezel and long tapering lugs. It features round pump pushers and a thinner crown for the memory clock on its left. Powered by the in-house Cal. 281, it is a fantastic column wheel chronograph that was used widely in the Compax range.
