Description

Condition Report:
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

OVERALL CONDITION: Fair/ restored dial
CASE: Has been polished in the past and shows signs of wear, consistent for a watch made in the 1930s. A lone gold hallmark is faintly visible on the caseband.
DIAL: Has been completely restored. There are some dust particles and age spots visible on the dial
MOVEMENT: Ticking at the time of cataloguing. The chronograph function is working. However, we do not test the movement for accuracy. A service is recommended
STRAP/ BUCKLE: Shows signs of wear

PLEASE NOTE
1. All lots are sold "AS IS", and this condition report is provided purely as a goodwill service and may not specify all mechanical replacements or defects. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in good condition and without defects, repairs or restoration. You are accordingly encouraged to view the lots personally or through your own professional advisor.
2. For further information on these issues, please refer to the terms and conditions.
We thank you for your interest in the forthcoming sale. We remind you again that all property is sold “as is” and should be viewed personally by you or by your professional advisor before the sale to assess its condition.

Lot Essay:

Known as being the first Patek Philippe wristwatch to have been given an individual reference number. The model is instantly recognizable by its Calatrava case, flat rectangular chronograph push buttons and concave bezel. Production was started in 1934 and the new chronograph was available in different precious metal versions as well as in stainless steel and with a variety of dial layouts.

Reference 130 was originally introduced to satisfy the growing demand for wrist chronographs following the economic depression of the 1920s. Until the launch of the reference 130, Patek Philippe’s chronographs had only been available in very small numbers to a select few, mostly as unique pieces.

The new series produced reference 130 were fitted with movements finished by the very best watchmakers with gold cases made by Vichet, one of the best Geneva casemakers of the time and subsequently it became a true icon of Patek Philippe. The reference has since become one of the most collectable vintage chronographs of all due to the variety of case materials and dial designs that were available over its production period.
