This classic, 17-jewel automatic yellow gold-plated Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox (Cal. 825) watch is in a beautiful condition and has excellent mechanical functionality. This watch has been serviced to the highest possible standards by the UK's leading watch restoration service, SHWR.
The gold case has the original, Jaeger-LeCoultre fluted crowns with 'JL' embossed on them. This vintage watch is from circa 1967, has a cream outer dial and a rotating silver inner dial with a sunburst finish to set the alarm, fuelled by the dual barrel movement. It has a date aperture at 3 o'clock, applied index markers, Roman numerals and gold batons. This stunning Memovox comes on a brown leather strap with a gold tang buckle.
The watch carries the in-house Calibre 825, beating 18,000 A/h, at its heart. This famous bumper automatic movement was inspired by JLC's 815. The latter was the first automatic alarm movement by the company and the first automatic watch with a repeater alarm. To this the date function was added in the 825.
The mechanism's engineering ingenuity enabled the simultaneous operation of both the alarm- and the date functions. The result was - In Jaeger-LeCoultre's own words - 'legendary'; its reliability and longevity makes this movement an iconic piece of the era. In fact, the movement continues to live on, as Memovox inspired JLC's contemporary Master Compressor and AMVOX lines.
