Description

You are currently looking at a gorgeous vintage 1940-1950s IWC
Post World War II international watch company or IWC as it is commonly referred to is known for producing some of the most beautiful diamond pieces on the market in this era.

At this time Cartier and Van Cleef and many other jewelry designers began competing for the mainstream attention in the ladies marketplace and attempted to produce the most prominent and unique ladies watches. Within this context it is believed that IWC was working in collaboration with Tiffany on many of their elite case designs to produce many of their gemstone creations. Because so few were created there is a very large demand today for such pieces and an increased collectibility for such timepieces of this period.

As most experienced collectors are aware during this timeframe, IWC was famously known for its production of post World War II pilots watches which are highly collectible in today's marketplace and extremely sought after. Because IWC traditionally worked with the innovation of men's timepieces it is extremely rare to find many examples of ladies wristwatches since so many of them were put into production and they were only privately commissioned upon request by important clients of this timeframe.

The present IWC has the highest quality emeralds in various cuts such as marquee and very carefully matched throughout. The design quality is exceptional and the setting in which each stone is placed has been carefully thought out to provoke a certain affect as it is worn by its owner. Having a concealed effect, it was not unusual for ladies watches to hide the fact that they were in deed , a watch. The design concept was deployed as a means to preserve the social etiquette being adhered to during this time period so it's wearer could check the time at a party or social event without drawing attention to the fact that they were doing so or in fact even wearing a watch.

The alternating pattern of diamond emerald along the bracelet is magnificent and completely what one would expect from One of IWC's finest creation.
The condition is exceptional and has been barely worn and there are no signs of wear to the bracelet or dial or missing stones given its age. It is obvious to the naked eye but this watch was well preserved and very seldomly used.
The dial and movement are signed IWC and the case is numbered as it should be.

The bracelet measures approximately 175 mm
The watch is approximately 28 mm
The dial is signed and appears on a original untouched silvered dial.
The approximate diamond and emerald weight is approaching 18 to 25 carats.
The bracelet is completely firm and all original stones are present.

It is important to note that this example in the auction had less diamond and emerald weight, was also not concealed and was in white gold not platinum.
