Description

Seiko’s first-ever professional dive watch, the 62MAS, or to give it its correct reference 6217-8001, needs no introduction. This example is in great condition for a tool watch that is over 50 years old. Recently fully serviced by an expert watchmaker who specialises in vintage Seikos, the watch is running very cleanly. It comes with our usual 12-month warranty as well.

The grey anthracite dial is in good condition, with the luminous hour markers showing the famous Seiko “Wabi” green that comes with age. We have replaced the strap with a new (historically correct) waffle silicon strap. Likewise, we had to replace the crown with the correct big "Seiko" version.

The unpolished case and horseshoe case back have obvious signs of wear, but everything is still sound with clean edges and definition. At 37mm it wears well. We believe that this example, having been made in April 1967, with its low serial number shows that, as a result, it is a rare example of a 62MAS quite possibly manufactured at the Daini factory.

This is a very good example of a watch that has rightly become a key piece in the collections of those who enjoy classic dive watches.
