The Rolex Sea-Dweller 116660 hails from a line of professional dive watches that emerged in the late 1960s designed to withstand the pressures of deep-sea diving. The 116660 model in particular made its debut in 2008 as the successor to the iconic Sea-Dweller 16600 but with a dramatic difference. It doubled the previous models water resistance and introduced the "Deepsea" nomenclature marking a significant chapter in Rolexs legacy of underwater exploration watches.The Rolex Sea-Dweller 116660 is powered by the Caliber 3135 a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Known for its precision reliability and resistance to shocks and magnetic fields the 3135 is a certified Swiss chronometer. Its architecture like all Rolex Perpetual movements makes it singularly reliable. One of the standout features of this model is the helium escape valve a crucial tool for deep-sea explorers. As divers ascend after deep saturation dives the helium escape valve allows helium trapped inside the watch to be released without compromising the integrity of the timepiece. This feature sets the Sea-Dweller apart and underpins its status as a watch designed for the deepest depths. Additionally the movement includes a date complication clearly visible through a window on the dial.
