Piaget Polo S

The Polo S collection is easily the sportiest line in Piaget's catalog. This Swiss luxury watch and jewelry manufacturer crafts these 42-mm timepieces out of stainless steel and equips them with a cushion-shaped dial. A flattened satin-brushed bezel further underscores the sporty nature of these watches.

The dials are equal parts tidy and refined. Luminous hands and hour indices mean you can always tell the time, even in poor lighting. With 100 m (10 bar, 328 ft) of water resistance, these watches are also fit for a dip in the pool. Piaget offers the Polo S in a three-hand model with a date display and in a chronograph model.

Each watch contains a high-quality in-house caliber. A sapphire glass case back offers a view of these automatic movements at work.

Piaget introduced the Polo S in 2016 as a sporty stainless steel version of the iconic Polo. The three-hand edition measures 42 mm in diameter and is a comfortable 9.4 mm thick.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of the Polo S is its cushion-shaped dial with horizontal guilloché engraving. Standard models come with a blue, white, or anthracite dial. Piaget also presented a limited edition version with a green dial at SIHH 2019. Applied luminous indices lend the dial a sense of depth. The dauphine hour and minute hands are also filled with luminous material. A narrow second hand with a Piaget "P" counterweight completes the look.

Sapphire glass protects both the front and back, meaning you can flip the timepiece over to view the in-house caliber 1110P at work. This intricate movement ticks at a rate of 28,800 alternations per hour (A/h) and provides each timepiece with a date display at 6 o'clock in addition to the standard set of hands. Versions with a blue dial feature a matching blue rotor.

You can purchase a never-worn Polo S for between 7,500 and 9,000 USD. Prices vary depending on whether you choose a stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap. Well-maintained pre-owned pieces typically cost about 1,100 USD less.

The green limited edition model, the ref. G0A44110, comes on a matching green alligator leather strap. Released in the summer of 2019, this Polo S is limited to a run of 500 pieces and sells for around 10,000 USD.

The Polo S Chronograph shares many similarities with the three-hand version. The only aesthetic differences are the chronograph push-pieces, the subdials at 3 and 9 o'clock, and a slightly thicker case.

The automatic in-house caliber 1160P powers these timepieces. Its bridges and plates are decorated with elaborate Geneva stripes.

Like the three-hand models, the Polo S Chronograph comes on a stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap and with your choice of a blue, white, or anthracite dial. Prices for mint-condition pieces on a stainless steel bracelet range from 11,000 to 12,500 USD. On the other hand, the version on an alligator leather strap demands roughly 10,000 USD.

Introduced in 1979, the Piaget Polo was one of the most popular watches during the 1980s. The original timepiece gets its power from the ultra-flat quartz caliber 7P. Its case and bracelet are made of 18-karat gold and designed to look like one solid piece. Today, these watches change hands for around 5,000 USD in good condition.

In the early 2000s, Piaget released a reimagined Polo: the Polo FortyFive. These watches are a stately 45 mm in diameter and come in titanium or stainless steel. The result is a much sportier-looking watch. Changes also took place inside the case itself, with mechanical in-house calibers replacing their quartz predecessors. Some of these newer movements even feature a flyback chronograph function. Expect to pay between 5,000 and 28,000 USD for one of these timepieces, depending on the model.

Other Polo watches have also made their debuts in recent years; for example, the 42-mm rose gold editions with a textured white dial. These timepieces are quite similar to their stainless steel counterparts, including their cushion-shaped dials and flattened satin-brushed bezels. For something a bit more glamorous, there are also versions with diamonds on the bezel and/or dial. Most of these watches sell for anywhere between 22,000 and 39,000 USD.
