Catalog Note
The present Piaget example is one of the firms most sought after and iconic examples of a Rare 1970s Piaget Special Order 18kt White Gold Diamond Sapphire Set Lapis hard stone dial and textured Bracelet watch.During this timeframe in the early 1970s and late 1960s commercial air travel was first introduced and made publiclyy accessible to society. For the first time society could travel from Hong Kong to Dubai and from London to New York with great ease and as a result a new found sense of style emerged, one which fit the needs of the “Jetsetter”. As a result, Piaget pioneered a new design concept for the timepiece and introduced rare high fashion bracelet watch concepts which differed from the purely functional element of timekeeping previous design firms produced and set a new standard as a luxury timepiece by placing more emphasis on timepieces as a piece of jewelry first and timepiece second.

With this new infusion of style, Piaget pulls from the inspiration of far away lands and through the use of their ability to create the worlds thinnest movements which was required to fit such a thicker hard stone dial as lapis, Piaget produced for the first time some of the most iconic bracelet watches of all time which incorporated the use of rare and exotic materials, typically only a jewelry bracelet could have been imagined to be designed with.
As a result the present example offered here today was commissioned and the present example is one of the most striking colorful combinations Piaget is known for producing of all time with the textured white gold and sapphire diamond and lapis combination being the firms most elite and recongizable concept of this limited series as other examples typically only had a full diamonds bezel only and moreover were typically mass produced with a basic metallic textured white gold dial far different than
he very unique lapis hard stone dial the present example exhibits. Additionally, interesting to note the present example which is designed with 32 brilliant round matched diamonds, and 4 sapphire set hour markers set at the 12,6,3, & 9 positions on the bezel, the present example represents one of the firms first original examples of this iconic concept which is timelessly celebrated still today with 2nd series being sold that has had no changes in concept for retail prices nearing $60-80,000 when purchased brand new from Piaget, only acting as a further testament to how sought after these original rare examples are by collectors today.

Additionally, the present design was also made famous by its commission of Piagets most famous celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor whom were known to be Piagets best clients during this timeframe and were famously known for being seen regularly in their specially ordered gemset hour marker and hard stone bracelet watches that were identical to this present example.

Condition
The present condition is excellent and has been recently serviced and is in perfect working condition. The bracelet is firm with no sign of tears or discolorations. The case is also in excellent shape indicated by its sharp hallmarks to the case back and sharp serial numbers supporting that it was rarely used and excellently perserved overtime by its original owner. In addition the signature has a bold signature on the pristine condition lapis dial further making the this piece a true trophy to collect and enjoy as so few were known to be produced and even less to survive as hardstone dials in general are more susceptible to damage over time.
