Description

Patek Philippe 5231J World Time "Grand Feu Cloisonné" Edition in 18kt Yellow Gold. The dial is hand-painted enamel cloisonné depicting the Map of the World, which only two artists at Patek Philippe are qualified to produce. There is a ring-shaped hour hand and dagger minute hand, with a night/day delineated 24-hour chapter ring. Around the perimeter are the 24 cities and time zones on a silver reserve.

The 38.5mm diameter solid three-body case, curved lugs, and angled flat bezel are polished/brushed. It is fitted on an alligator leather strap with an 18K yellow gold deployment Patek Philippe emblem release buckle, and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-glare coatings. There is a winding crown, and a rectangular push button at 10 o'clock on the left-side case band that activates the 24-hour GMT chapter ring, switching from one time zone to another. Each time it is pressed, the hour hand advances one hour while the city ring and 24-hour ring rotate counter-clockwise by one hour - equivalent to one-time zone. Pressing the button 24 times will produce a trip around the world, with a return to the original departure time. The local time, indicated by the hour and minute hands, refers to the location on the city disk that lines up with 12 o'clock. The sapphire crystal exhibition case back allows the owner to view the magnificent mechanical automatic self-winding Patek Philippe 240 HU movement.

This Patek Philippe World Time with Enamel Cloisonne Dial 5231J has a mechanical automatic self-winding Patek Philippe 240 HU movement that's rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's stamped with the Patek Philippe seal quality mark, and it's constructed with 33 jewels, 239 components, 8 Bridges, a Gyromax balance wheel that's adjusted to temperature, isochronism, and 5 positions, a self-compensating Breguet flat balance spring, and a 22K gold off-center mini-rotor that oscillates at 21,600 vph (3 Hz).

The Patek Philippe Complications collection holds true to its name, presenting an array of unrivaled timepieces that boast practical and profound craftsmanship. Due in large part to the brand’s infamous work and intricate innovations, they have curated a suite of wristwatches like no other. This magnificent timepiece features Patek's patented worldtime complication, making them a valuable collectors’ watch that can be passed down through the generations.

Patek Philippe is renowned worldwide for its exceptional craftsmanship and intricate movements. Among Patek's range of complication models, the World Time reference 5231J stands out as the pinnacle of the brand's offerings. From the stunning cloisonné enamel dial to the prestigious microrotor movement and the elegant 18k yellow gold case measuring, this watch represents the very essence of horology - a perfect blend of prestige, expert craftsmanship, rich history, and breathtaking design.

Rarely has a slogan rung more true than Patek Philippe’s trademark ad line, “You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation.” Since 1839 the company has carried on the vision of its founders Norbert de Patek and Adrien Philippe, bringing to life countless inventions and innovations. Owned and operated by the Stern family since 1932, Geneva’s last family-owned independent watch manufacturer sits at the cutting edge of watchmaking technology. Patek Philippe maintains a tradition of innovation, boasting an impressive repertoire of more than 80 patents, including the Minute Repeater, Annual Calendar, Perpetual Calendar, and the World Time.

This watch is truly exceptional in both its aesthetic and mechanical qualities. The cloisonné enamel dial is an absolute marvel, displaying an array of vivid colors and showcasing the incredible artistic and technical abilities of Patek's enamelers. The case is equally stunning, featuring fancy faceted lugs that are revived from the legendary 2523 reference. When you flip the watch over, you'll be treated to a mesmerizing view of the caliber 240 HU, which is beautifully decorated and displays the now-renowned Patek microrotor.
