Description

Patek Philippe 5205G Annual Calendar Rhodium Silver Dial with Moonphase on Leather Strap

Technological developments don’t occur in a linear fashion. This watch is the perfect example. While the perpetual calendar was invented by Thomas Mudge in 1762, it took more than 250 years for Patek Philippe to invent the annual calendar complication used in this ref. 5205.

The first annual calendar, the ref. 5035, was introduced by Patek in 1996. Sporting a day, date, and month function, the watch can distinguish between months that are 30 and 31 days in length. As a result, you only have to manually adjust the watch once a year, at the end of February.

This ref. 5205G is a post-modern interpretation of the annual calendar watch. Housed in a large 40 mm 18k white gold case, it definitely isn’t your grandfather’s dress watch. The watch features a bold concave polished bezel and lovely pierced lugs. A sapphire see-through case back gives full view to the expertly finished automatic movement with a 21k yellow gold rotor

The large Rhodium silver dial has a contemporary and dynamic look. Three large apertures at the 11, 12, and 1 o’clock positions display the day, date, and month functions, while a 24-hour indicator and moonphase complication are shown in a large sub-dial one the bottom half of the dial. These details match well with the inclusion of long applied 18k white gold baton markers and bold rose gold dauphine hands.

The overall style of the dial is dynamic and contemporary, completed by three-face Dauphine hands and applied white-gold hour markers; The 24-hour display in the subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock simplifies the calendar adjustments that can be performed by using the small push pieces in the case flank.

Offering water resistance to 30 metres / 100 feet, the 40 mm case is well proportioned with a thickness of 11.36 mm and distinctive details like the slightly concave bezel and pierced strap lugs.

Consisting of 356 parts, the self-winding Calibre 324 S QA LU 24H/206 features the Patek Philippe’s Annual Calendar mechanism that was patented in 1996. This 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations pr hour) movement needs to be corrected by hand once a year, at the end of February. Highly precise, the moon-phase display will deviate from the actual position of the moon by merely one day every 122 years. The power reserve is min. 35 hours – max. 45 hours.

The finishes of the movement – including the chamfered and polished contours of the bridges as well as the Calatrava cross engraved in the rotor – can be appreciated through the sapphire-crystal case back.

Matched to a black alligator leather strap and a white gold buckle.
