• Patek Philippe 5204P Split Seconds Chronograph •

The first perpetual calendar wristwatch with a split-second / rattrapante chronograph (Ref: 5004) was made by Patek Philippe in 1995, with just 12 pieces made per year before it was discontinued in 2011. As the ‘end of production’ edition, 50 pieces in steel were made and sold exclusively through the Geneva Salon to a selected list of the brand’s loyalists. And then came the 5004T piece unique made in titanium for Only Watch 2013, which was hammered for a staggering 3 Million Euros contributing close to two-thirds of the overall proceeds.

In 2012, Patek Philippe replaced Ref: 5004 with the new, slightly slimmer Ref: 5204 with a few technical enhancements. Which was then succeeded by 5372P in 2017.

The present reference 5204P-011 black dial was launched in 2014. Although not official, it was launched alongside Patek Philippe’s 175th anniversary collection.

The 40.2mm platinum case displays the perpetual calendar functions, namely the day, date, month, leap year, day/night and moonphase indicators, and a monopusher chronograph with split-second function, all laid out neatly marked in white on an incredibly gorgeous matte black opaline dial. It is one of the few modern Pateks with hacking seconds – a little geeky touch adding to the collectors’ appreciation.

On the movement side is the breathtaking Patek Philippe in-house calibre 29 535PS Q featuring 2 column wheels and a gyromax balance. The meticulous finishing on each component of the movement is simply incredible with a combination of black polishing and chamfering on the edges of levers and bridges, all dancing in rhythm to the play of light.

Offered on black hand-stitched alligator strap with spring bars giving the flexibility to swap straps easily, it is accompanied by a platinum deployant clasp.

Oh, did we forget to mention how rare this timepiece is? Very Rare!
