More About this Unique Collaboration

Designed by the famous Case Designer Gilbert Albert and not made in series, this Piece Unique wristwatch was made in 1960s and comes with original Gilbert Albert Presentation Box

Patek Philippe, founded in 1839 in the Swiss city of Geneva, prides itself as one of the last independently owned watch manufacturers. This allows the company total creative freedom to entirely design, produce and assemble what experts agree to be one of the finest timepieces in the world. Thanks to exceptional know-how, Patek Philippe maintains a tradition of innovation hailed by an impressive repertoire of more than 80 patents and an incredible lineup of antique, vintage, and modern time pieces. Historically, Patek Philippe timepieces are known for their high collectability and record auction prices as well as innovative creativity and famous collaborations with famous design firms such as Gilbert Albert

At first, Gilbert Albert started working as a case designer for Patek Philippe during the 1950s at the age of 24. He began using his favorite artists Brancusi, a modernist sculptor, and Mondrian, a non-representational painter as inspirations in his designs. Albert defied the conventional way of designing watchcases as the world knew it and as a result Albert was asked to commission a few select production lines for the watch firms Omega and Patek Philippe. In the 1960s, Patek Philippe worked with the World Renown Geneva jewelry designer to design a series of wrist and pocket watches with innovative asymmetric cases for a very limited time.

During his time at Patek, he was responsible for numerous variations of "asymmetric" wrist and pocket watch design series(s) & won numerous international awards and prizes for his designs to become the most rewarded Diamonds International Awards jeweler which he received 10 times with Patek, Omega & his own firm he eventually opened after 1962.

Gilbert Albert incorporated revolutionary designs in his watches, using asymmetrical triangles & rhombic form and the result was simple, sophisticated, and purely artistic designs. Many of Albert’s innovative designs for Patek Philippe remained prototypes and were never manufactured in series because of the uncertain commercial success of his daring design which is why these limited production examples are so highly sought after today.

The present timepiece offered here today set the foundation for the now famous ref. 788 which was made by Gilbert Albert for Patek Philippe as part of the unique series of handmade asymmetrical watches. These unique timepieces represented the cutting edge watch design and engineering that Patek Philiipe became world world renowned for. The ultra thin movement which was necessary to fit into these innovative cutting edge case designs truly makes this an extremely sophisticated timepiece inside and out.

The presence of the this watch when worn on the wrist is extremely impressive and stands out amongst most other Patek Philippe timepieces and is a definite show stopper.

There are less then 10 examples known for this series as a whole with the present timepiece being the only known wristwatch in existence.

Furthermore this fresh to the market timepiece has been extremely well kept by its original owner. It has been well preserved & is in very good overall condition.
