Parmigiani Fleurier was founded in 1996 by Michel Parmigiani, with the support of the Sandoz Family Foundation. Parmigiani had previously made a name for himself as a restorer and master watchmaker for 20 years.

Since the company's founding, Parmigiani and the Sandoz Family Foundation have gradually developed Parmigiani Fleurier into a full-fledged watchmaker, bringing together case manufacturer Les Artisans Boîtiers, dial specialist Quadrance & Habillage, parts producers Atokalpa and Elwin, and movement maker Vaucher Manufacture under the Parmigiani Fleurier umbrella. This means the brand has full control over every component used in its watches.

This level of independence ensures that every Parmigiani Fleurier watch meets the highest standards in terms of quality and precision. Their gold, platinum, or stainless steel cases are of impeccable quality, their dials are finely crafted with guilloché patterns, and their in-house calibers are finished with ornate cuts and polishes. Tonda PF

The Tonda PF is available in a variety of variants, from simple two-hand and skeleton watches to numerous chronographs and watches with an annual calendar. The line also includes timepieces with tourbillons or a second time zone. The latter can be found in a unique variant, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante: the hour hand on this timepiece is designed as a split-seconds hand set, i.e., two superimposed hands. Travelers who change time zones can easily set the upper rhodium-plated hand to the local time in hourly increments with the push-piece at 8 o'clock. The lower gold hand continues to indicate the time at home. When you're back home and no longer need two time zones, simply press the pusher mounted on the crown and both hands are perfectly aligned.

Other Tonda Models

The Toric collection occupies a special place in the Parmigiani universe. The Toric was the first watch that company founder Michel Parmigiani introduced to the market under the brand name Parmigiani Fleurier.

With its round case, slender curved lugs, and stepped bezel with alternating knurled and polished surfaces, the design of the Toric is decidedly classic. The watch dial is normally monochrome and often features a guilloché pattern. The collection offers variants with short bar indices or Roman or Arabic numerals. Older Collections and Collaborations

The Kalpa collection was part of the Parmigiani Fleurier catalog until a few years ago and is still highly regarded by fans of the brand. Watches in the Kalpa line feature elegantly curved cushion-shaped cases. The Kalpagraphe chronograph and three-hand Kalparisma are particularly popular.

Parmigiani Fleurier and Bugatti

For more than a decade, Parmigiani Fleurier has enjoyed a partnership with the French automaker Bugatti, and the watchmaker regularly releases timepieces dedicated to Bugatti's luxury sports models. These include two flyback chronographs, the sporty Bugatti Aérolithe Performance and Bugatti Atalante Flyback, which you can buy on Chrono24 for between 13,300 and 22,200 USD.

The strictly limited Bugatti Type 390 and Bugatti Type 370 are a real feast for the eyes. The latter is inspired by the Bugatti Type 57, and is powered by a transverse movement, meaning that the individual components in the movement are arranged on an axis, one below the other. The whole is housed in a cylindrical case and is visible through several sapphire crystals. The case is framed by curved lugs reminiscent of the Type 57 wheelhouses. Parmigiani Fleurier und Pershing

In the early 2000s, Parmigiani Fleurier began a collaboration with Italian yacht specialist Pershing, which resulted in a number of chronographs such as the 45-mm Parmigiani Pershing 005 and 42-mm Parmigiani Pershing 002, as well as the Parmigiani Pershing Tourbillon.

The design of the watches is sporty and masculine, with an easy-grip rotating bezel and bold hands and indices. Buyers have the choice of a metal bracelet or a rubber or leather strap.

Parmigiani Fleurier und Giorgio Armani

Fashion giant Giorgio Armani is also one of Parmigiani Fleurier's partners. In 2020, the luxury watch manufacturer produced a series of unisex watches for the fashion house, which offered the timepieces exclusively in selected boutiques under the name Giorgio Armani 11.

The Giorgio Armani 11 has a square cushion-shaped case and a moon phase display at 6 o'clock. Available in gold and stainless steel, the watch is strictly limited and therefore rarely appears on the Chrono24 marketplace.

History of Parmigiani Fleurier

After completing his watchmaking apprenticeship at the age of 25, Michel Parmigiani opened a workshop in 1976, at the height of the quartz crisis, where he restored antique and historically valuable watches. He quickly made a name for himself in the field and soon began receiving commissions from prestigious collectors and museums. Among his clients was the Sandoz family (Novartis AG), who own an extensive watch collection. They stayed in touch, and when Parmigiani decided to produce watches under his own name in 1996, the Sandoz Family Foundation provided financial support.

Since then, Parmigiani Fleurier has been the central pillar of the "Pôle Horloger," the Sandoz Family Foundation's center for watchmaking.
