Panerai Radiomir 1936 represents a tribute to the history of Officine Panerai and to the watch which has constituted a fundamental milestone in the history of professional diver’s watchmaking. Many of the characteristics of the rare Radiomir "California" watches are directly descended from the prototype created by Panerai in 1936 to equip the commandos of the Royal Italian Navy: the cushion case in steel with a diameter of 47mm, the slender wire strap attachments, the conical crown and the simple dial reduced to essentials to increase legibility to the maximum even in conditions of very poor light.



Since 1860, Panerai had been synonymous to larger-than-life watches that equal the people who wear them like the Royal Italian Navy and Sylvester Stallone. Evoking strength and indomitable spirit, the timepieces desirability increases ten-fold when its offered in very limited quantity such as those in the Panerai Special Editions. Releasing only a handful each year, these watches can be had in steel, gold, platinum, tantalum, ceramic, or bronze cases with a number even boasting of hunter lids. Dimension ranges from a moderate 40mm to a colossal 60mm to fit everyone’s style and preference. Powered by a mechanical movement, the Panerai Special Editions further impresses with a multitude of complications like GMT alarm, tourbillon, chronograph, power reserve, and more. Always up for the next adventure, the Panerai Special Editions feature a water resistance of 30m to 2,500m.

Panerai is the most famous Italian watch company. But keep in mind, Panerai is now produced in Switzerland, not Italy. Originally founded in Florence in the 1860's, this "watch workshop" was commissioned by the Italian Navy to produce a watch that could be easily read underwater. This early prototype was actually fitted with Rolex parts. Currently Panerai produces a very limited number of pieces and therefore keeps demand high.
