Before you receive your watch, it will be checked and certified by a verified watchmaker. Among other things, the watchmaker checks whether your watch matches the listing information and whether it complies with our definition of authenticity.
3. Receive your watch and digital certificate of authenticity
After successful certification, you can rest assured your new watch is genuine. This is confirmed by a certificate of authenticity, which you can access digitally after receiving your watch.

Chrono24 Buyer Protection offers complete security for your payment. If you purchase from a professional dealer, we will hold the purchase amount in our escrow account for 14 days after you receive your watch. This means your money is safe until you're sure you're satisfied with your purchase. Only then will we transfer payout to the dealer. Certification is free if it's included in the price of your watch. In this case, the watch has already been checked by a verified watchmaker working in cooperation with the dealer. See also: What's the difference between Certified Included and Certified Optional?
If you've selected a watch with Certified as an optional add-on, you can book certification for an additional charge of $249. In this case, the watch will be checked by one of our in-house watchmakers before being shipped to you. See also: What's included in Certified Optional?

If certification is already included, you'll receive your certified watch at no additional cost. You pay the purchase price of the watch as usual via our escrow service.
If you book certification for a watch that is not already certified, you pay the purchase price of the watch plus an additional $249 for certification. We will only issue an invoice for the certification if you expressly request one.

All Certified watches are comprehensively checked against specific criteria by a verified watchmaker. This is the only way we can guarantee the authenticity of your watch. The check includes the following:

Authenticity check: The authenticity of the watch is checked both inside and out. We also check to make sure the watch meets our definition of authenticity. See: How do we define authenticity?

Functionality check: We test the watch's complications, winding mechanism, chronograph function, and more. See: How do we define authenticity?

Scope of delivery check: All additional items, such as the original box and papers (if included), are checked for completeness and conformity with the model reference.

Theft check: The watch's serial number is checked against leading stolen watch databases. This ensures that the watch hasn't been stolen or otherwise lost by its rightful owner.

Every watchmaker who certifies watches under the Certified program has to meet certain criteria. In this way, we ensure he or she has suitable qualifications and technical equipment. Through individualized audits, we also ensure that watches are tested exclusively by experts and in accordance with our standards.
