The 42 mm case, made from lightweight grade 2 titanium, pays homage to the titanium ore found on the moon’s surface, providing a robust yet lightweight feel on the wrist. The brushed finish of the titanium case adds a contemporary aesthetic, while the 18K OMEGA Sedna gold bezel introduces a touch of elegance. This luxurious bezel is complemented by a matte brown ceramic ring featuring the iconic tachymeter scale—a hallmark of the Speedmaster collection. The grey PVD dial, produced using a special laser technique that removes material surrounding the design elements, creates a striking and unique face for this commemorative watch. The dial features three sub-dials: a 30-minute recorder, a 12-hour recorder, and a small seconds sub-dial. The watch is presented on a brown-coated nylon fabric NATO strap, inspired by the rugged straps used on military watches since the Second World War. This choice of strap not only enhances the vintage appeal of the watch but also ensures durability and comfort, suitable for everyday wear. The earthy brown tones of the strap and grey dial, combined with the brushed titanium and touches of gold, evoke the colors of the moon and the lunar and command modules. At its heart, the watch is powered by the OMEGA calibre 1861, an evolution of the calibre 861 that was used in many previous Moonwatch models. This movement, now upgraded with rhodium plating for improved corrosion resistance. The OMEGA Speedmaster remains the only flight-qualified watch that meets NASA's rigorous requirements for Extravehicular Activity (EVA), outperforming quartz watches with LCD displays that are prone to failure due to extreme temperature changes in space.
