The original burgundy red dial of this automatic Omega watch has developed an interesting patina over the years. This watch was made in 1974 and since then a rare phenomenon has occurred as the watch has aged. Cracks have appeared in the dial paint and developed a spider web like pattern which is evenly distributed across the dial.
We have seen many, many Omega watches of this age but this is the first time we have a spider dial version in stock. It is also the first time we have found one with this unusual and cool colour of the dial - it is deep burgundy red with a sunburst effect. It is probably a limited production run - perhaps Omega became aware that there was a problem with the dial paint and stopped using it. This watch is like a rare vintage wine that has aged well and will continue to mature - who knows what it will look like in another 40-50 years?!
The movement is an automatic calibre 1012 with 23 jewels which has a quick-set date complication. The crown is original. The crystal is original with a tiny etched Omega logo on it.
The case reference is 166-0117 which has an integrated link bracelet. It is a pleasure to wear. The bracelet is the original one and it comes with all fifteen links (two of the links have been removed on the pictures but they are included too). The Omega stamped clasp closes tightly.
An unusual watch with very cool looks and great wearability due to its size, the balanced case and the comfortable link bracelet which has links that can be removed or added and can be micro adjusted at the clasp.
This watch has recently been serviced by our watchmaker. The case and dial have minor scratches from normal use but are both in overall in very good condition. The crystal is free from scratches.
This watch comes in a high-quality padded and zipped travel case from Beco-Technic and with a Certificate of Authenticity from Arlington Watches.
