These Are the New 2024 NOMOS Models

NOMOS fans should rejoice these days, as the German brand has finally announced its new models for 2024. Not normally a brand known for sparking heated debate, one of its new watches has caused quite a stir among enthusiasts this year. I’m showing you all the NOMOS novelties that were introduced in the fall of 2024. Of course, we’ll also talk about the elephant in the room: the new NOMOS Tangente 2Date. SPOILER ALERT: Did we watch enthusiasts miss something in this release?

NOMOS Club Sport 34

But let’s start on a more relaxed note: With the NOMOS Club Sport, the German watch manufacturer from Glashütte has landed a real hit. It’s hardly surprising that the brand introduced a new 34-mm variant in new colors this year. The new size is primarily aimed at women, but anyone with a slim wrist will also want to take a look at this little all-rounder. One of the most striking design features of a NOMOS watch is the long lugs, which are as much a trademark of the brand as the snowflake hands of a Tudor. While this made it difficult for watch lovers with small wrists to find the right size, the smaller diameter of the new watch now allows a wider target group to enjoy this popular all-rounder. The release of the NOMOS Club Sport in 34 mm is certainly no earth-shattering novelty, but it is definitely a sensible addition to the popular Club Sport series.

NOMOS Orion Neomatik & Tangente Neomatik Doré

I don’t know how it is in your part of the world, but here in Germany, gold watches and the people who wear them are often associated with a certain image – you really stand out with one on your wrist. When the new NOMOS Orion Neomatik and the Tangente Neomatik Doré were presented to journalists at the NOMOS Forum, a smirk came across my face. In keeping with the German affinity for gold, NOMOS delivers a watch made of steel with delicate, understated, and very stylish gold elements on the hands and indices. The brown leather strap fits like a glove, and completes the remarkable look. The result is beautiful to look at and gives the two classic models that certain golden glow without going overboard. The real star is the beautiful automatic movement DUW 3001, which can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. All in all, this release is probably nothing groundbreaking, but an interesting extension of two iconic NOMOS models. If you’re looking for a classic dress watch with gold accents, these two watches may be just what you’re looking for.

NOMOS Tangente 2Date

The NOMOS Tangente 2Date is the main attraction among the NOMOS novelties and caused a sensation among watch enthusiasts when it was launched. The reason? The watch comes with two date displays – a complication that some fans don’t understand, and weren’t really asking for. I’ll tell you what it’s all about in a moment, as well as what my personal opinion of this watch is, but first things first. The Tangente is probably the NOMOS icon par excellence, and is one of the brand’s best-known and most popular models. So it goes without saying that nothing has fundamentally changed in terms of the case design and the general design language with this watch. All the typical features that make up a Tangente, such as the use of both numerals and line indices, and the seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, are back, as is the date window, which is also at 6, below the subdial. Completely new, however, are the recesses on the perimeter of the dial, numbered from one to 31. This is the second date display, which shows you the date in analog form. The whole thing is meant to be a kind of orientation of how far you’ve progressed in the month, and to illustrate that visually. The date is for both displays in red in the white version, and in white in the blue version. The real star of the show is the brand new in-house caliber DUW 4601, which now powers the popular Tangente with a quick-set date feature. A glance through the sapphire crystal case back reveals the great attention to detail with which NOMOS has decorated the new movement. It’s incredibly beautiful to look at, even slimmer with a movement height of 2.8 mm, and delivers 52 hours of power reserve to this watch that has 50 meters (5 bar, 164 feet) of water resistance. Although the manufacturer may not always take itself too seriously when it comes to design and complications, it doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to technology and quality. Everything here is just as it should be with this renown watch brand.

What We Overlooked With the NOMOS Tangente 2Date

The NOMOS Tangente 2Date is the first watch that displays the date twice. Is this the feature that watch enthusiasts have been waiting for? Absolutely not. Is this new function useful? In my opinion, no. The disappointment of many watch fans is understandable. You think a lot of the brand, and might even feel a little offended when it goes in other directions that deviate from the usual tradition and longevity that the name NOMOS stands for. I think NOMOS missed an opportunity here to incorporate something like a day-date complication. This would have made more sense than a second date display, and would certainly have been better received. In all the justified criticism, however, one thing has been overlooked: The NOMOS Tangente already exists in numerous variations. If you like it classic, go for the classic version. But while we don’t need a new Tangente with two date displays, NOMOS is showing us that it is breaking new ground – and that not everything in the world of watches has to be traditional, sensible, and serious. In today’s world, where you can check the time, date, and day on your smartphone, watches should first and foremost be fun to wear and visually appealing. NOMOS is a watch brand that wants to combine tradition and values with new ideas and is not afraid to look to the fashion industry, where not everything has to be sensible and traditional. Even while they’re willing to experiment, NOMOS knows very well where they come. Two date complications may not be very practical, but they demonstrate NOMOS’ courage to innovate, its love of detail, and the typical, subtle NOMOS sense of humor, which sometimes goes unnoticed by many watch enthusiasts, but which makes the brand so unique and charming. And you can’t get enough of that in the world of mechanical watches, which can still be on the antiquated side of things from time to time. This watch is certainly not for everyone – and it doesn’t want to be.
