In March, we asked you to share the story behind your first Rolex with us. We received all kinds of exciting stories, some of which touched our hearts. For example, Australian Ed Manning explained how he turned his comic book and Lego collections into a Rolex Milgauss.
Then there’s Italian-American Tito from Atlanta, who told us about the enormous luck he experienced after accidentally losing his Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665 on the bottom of Lake Lanier. In his story, you’ll learn how he was able to recover his prized Rolex (in full working condition) two years later.
We also heard from Artaud Charles, a teacher from New York. He revealed how he (with the help of a few financial tricks) was able to acquire a brand new Rolex Oyster Perpetual smack dab in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
In today’s article, Dr. Kasra Sarhadi of Seattle tells us how he rewarded himself with a brand-new Oyster Perpetual Datejust during the COVID-19 pandemic following the successful, hard-fought completion of his medical studies.
My Rolex Story
“The days are long, but the years are short.” The dean of my medical school loved to utter this statement as motivation for my fellow students and me in times of stress. It’s a simple sentence that carries profound significance for me and has cemented itself in my psyche. It’s an homage to the idea that hard work, perseverance, and most importantly, perspective can get you through anything. As a watch collector, I love this quote because it captures the essence of both time and the professional endeavor leading up to my first Rolex, the Rolex Datejust 116234 – a timepiece I will cherish for the rest of my life.
My name is Kasra Sarhadi, and I am a 28-year-old resident physician at the University of Washington in Seattle. Ever since I was six years old, I set my mind on becoming a physician to impact the world and those around me in a positive way. It’s a goal that has become more relevant than ever during this global pandemic. I have spent the last year working amid the pandemic, caring for patients with and without COVID-19. Prior to my graduation from medical school in the summer of 2020, as I began to prepare for the major life transition of moving across the country to start my next step in training as a newly graduated physician, I set my mind on obtaining a timepiece as the perfect memento to commemorate the many years of hard work that culminated in this achievement. I’ve always loved watches for their elegance, undeniable functionality, and inherent sense of companionship with their wearer. It was time for my first proper timepiece, and after months of research, I decided that the Rolex Datejust ref. 116234 with a silver stick dial and Jubilee bracelet would be the perfect companion going forward. As a model with a remarkable history, impeccable craftsmanship, an abundance of class, and incredible versatility, I knew I could wear the Datejust as easily now as when I retire. Moreover, the Jubilee bracelet with its hidden clasp, white gold bezel, and silver sunburst dial simply took my breath away at first sight, providing that gut feeling telling me this was the right one for me.
During my research, Chrono24 quickly became my epicenter for watch data about timepieces from all over the world. My adventures into ADs had always left me wanting, as they hardly had the information or stock available to help me through my purchasing journey. Browsing models on Chrono24 filled me with excitement as I imagined not only the joy I would receive from wearing this Rolex but also how much more it would mean to me than just a timepiece. Admittedly, I was hesitant and, frankly, petrified at first with the idea of purchasing such an expensive item over the internet. However, Chrono24’s Buyer Protection quickly put me at ease, allowing me the comfort of finding the exact reference and model I wanted without compromising on safety or trust. The buying process was straightforward and a pleasure to use. About four months after the beginning of my search, and two months after my graduation, my Rolex Datejust was in my hands and on my wrist, ready to accompany me during any future challenge.
Now, almost a year from the moment I decided to purchase my first Rolex, I can say I am still thoroughly enamored by this timepiece and so thankful to Chrono24 for providing me with the information and trustworthy buying experience that allowed me to acquire it. My Rolex Datejust is not only the perfect fit for my wrist but is also the perfect fit for my lifestyle. Whether I am in the hospital running to an emergency, at the clinic spending time getting to know a patient, or at home with my family and friends, my Datejust is always reliably on my wrist, helping me keep track of my day and constantly reminding me to remain in the present. It reminds me of my journey into medicine – the long days and nights studying so I could take the best care of my patients – and the perseverance needed to get to where I am today. Although my journey is not yet over, and the thought of how much I still have to learn can be daunting, one quick look down at my wrist reminds me of how much I have already accomplished and how much more I am capable of. The days may continue to be long, just like my medical school dean promised. But much like my Datejust second hand’s infallible sweep, I know I’ll remain steadfast in my pursuit of growing and learning so that I can continue to make an impact and improve the health of my community and the greater world.
