Daily Drivers: Great Watches for Under 5,000 Euros

Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Blue Steel

When Bell & Ross first released their square timepieces inspired by aeronautical instruments, the reactions were mixed. Some truly loved the revolutionary new look, while others (including many journalists) loathed it. Over the years, the brand has built a name for itself with their consistent communication and products. The BR 03 family of watches is one of the largest within the Bell & Ross catalog. It consists of simple and complicated timepieces in a number of materials, including ceramic, steel, and PVD coatings. This particular watch, the BR 03-92 Blue Steel, is on the simpler side. It is a time-only watch with a beautiful deep blue dial, satin-brushed steel case, and large, SuperLuminova-coated numerals. However, it’s not the most simple timepiece thanks to its date display between 4 and 5 o’clock. PAired with a blue calf leather case, the final result is stunning, simple, and elegant.

Enthusiast’s Corner: Rare or Exceptional Timepieces

Oris Aquis Date 39.5 mm

Is green the new black? I don’t think so. However, many watch brands are dipping their toes into new, less conventional colors. Diving watches have a particularly long history with colorful designs, as they were believed to be easier to read underwater. Oris is particularly fond of playing with color to create completely new takes on some of their classic models. Take this Oris Aquis Date 39.5 mm, for example. We’ve already looked at the beautiful blue edition, and while this green timepiece is the same exact model, it looks completely different. The deep green color scheme changes the watch’s overall look, making it more elegant than the blue version in my opinion. Its fantastic size, useful date display at 6, and display case back are just the icing on the cake. Wouldn’t you agree?

Iconic Timepieces: Great Value for Your Money

Ressence Type 3

It might be too early to call Ressence an iconic brand – the company has only been around for a decade, after all. However, this “unique horological startup” (as they call themselves) has created many timepieces that are exceptionally creative and innovative both inside and out. If they continue down this path, it’s only a matter of time before the achieve icon status. I’m personally willing to go out on a limb and say they are already there, hence their appearance in our “Iconic Timepieces” segment. The Type 3 is by far my favorite Ressence watch, and I truly believe it’s one of the cornerstones of the brand’s success. I mean, how many times have you seen a timepiece filled with 35.7 ml of oil? Yes, you read that right. Ressence fills the dial side with oil for improved clarity thanks to the oil having the same refractive index as the sapphire crystal. This futuristic ingenuity is why Ressence, and especially the Type 3, already fit into the iconic category.
