Richard in Morges was founded on 25 October 1943. Until its acquisition by Longines in 1978, the share capital (500,000) was entirely in the hands of the Richard family.

Richard was a distribution company that built up a large mail order department, which was later supplemented by the opening of fourteen sales outlets in Switzerland, in Morges, Lausanne, Vevey, Geneva, Fribourg, Berne, Zurich, Lucerne, France. Basel, Baden, Lugano, Oerlikon, St. Gallen and Winterthur.

Richard sa marketed watches in addition to pens, luxury pipes and other household items. It was the first to introduce the automatic watch on the Swiss market. Note that Richard did not manufacture its models, but entrusted the execution to specialized houses. In its workshops in Morges, watchmakers provided after-sales service. From 1955, the company developed the sale of 18 carat gold jewelry.
