Description

Hamilton Khaki Field Military King Automatic Mens Watch H64455133 RRP £490
Background:
This Hamilton Khaki Field H64455133 draws from Hamilton’s long lasting relationship with the US army. The piece has a classic army style which has been tried and tested over time. Rugged, robust and resilient, they’re ready for the outdoors and can compete with the best sport watches out there. The watch is Swiss-made with American heart and soul, with the design a throw-back to its military heritage. The result is a wonderfully crafted timepiece with Swiss quality and pure American-military usefulness. This epic masterpiece is nicknamed as the ‘King’ due to specially designed protectors ensuring the safety of the crown at all times. Long live the King.

The Case:
The Khaki Field King has a typical combination of both brushed and polished stainless steel throughout the case. The diameter is 40mm, making it not too big but not too small either. It measures at 11mm in thickness. The skeleton screw-down case back allows the wearer to view the inner mechanisms of the watch.

The Dial:
The dial of the watch is black, which accentuates the white arabic numerals and dot markers every five minutes, as well as the white minute marks and further sub ticks to break down each minute/second into five parts. The dial also features the ‘Hamilton’ logo in the same white tone, as well as ‘Khaki Automatic’ being situated above the 6 o’clock mark. A subtle nod to the watches militaristic roots is the military time feature in the inner ring.

It also features stylish syringe hands for both hour and minute, they have a elegant pointer at the ends of each of them. They consist of white lume paint, with a delicate silver polished outline on them, which brings a real spark to them when the light catches them. The inclusion of an red arrow hand design for the second hand is an eye-catching feature that gives a modern look to the piece.

Domed scratch-resistant sapphire glass blends perfectly into the fixed, polished bezel, giving the watch a very clean appearance. A ‘H’ embossed, brushed silver crown is situated next to the 3 o’clock marker, reminding the wearer that this is a field watch, it also gives the watch a masculine feel. Hacking functionality has also been applied so that when the crown is pulled out the time will stop. It is also manual winding.

The Bracelet:
The bracelet is a real quality feature of this timepiece. It consists of a bold 3 piece silver steel brushed bracelet. Adding a touch of class and sophistication to the piece. It gives the watch a complete look. It also boats a push-button deployment clasp, with their full logo on the clasp of the brand.

The Movement:
The Khaki Field also features Hamilton’s H-40 produced movement. This mechanism is made by the Swatch company, where it is laser regulated. It is also found in Tissot watches too. It is one of the most attractive features of this watch, as it offers an astounding 80 power reserve. Comparatively, a standard mechanical watch will hold time for around 40 hours. It operates at a rate of 21,600 v/p/h which is why the watch is able to boats such impressive power reserves, because it is easier on the gears. It consists of 25 jewels and you can expect to loose or gain around 7 seconds a day. The wearer is able to view the inner mechanisms, such as the ‘Hamilton’ embossed bi-directional winding rotor, through the open back case.

The watch also comes with a hacking function. When the crown is pulled out to adjust the time the second hand will stop. This allows you to set the second hand for precision timing. Once the crown is pushed back in the hands will tick from that second.

Notably this watch has a water resistance of 50 metres, making it suitable for surface swimming.

The Family: Khaki Field
Rugged and ready for the outdoors, the Hamilton Khaki Field collection combines easy-to-red dials with bold styling. There are also plenty of complications on offer across the Khaki Field family, such as chronographs, day and date indicators and titanium case construction, meaning that this rugged appeal doesn’t come at the expense of quality watchmaking.

The Khaki Field range pays homage to the Hamilton watches used by the United States military in 1910.

Also for the eagle eyed ‘movie-goer’ these watches have been worn on the big screen with a notable appearances include Liam Neeson in the crime thriller, A Walk Among The Tombstones.

The Brand: Hamilton
Since its foundation in 1892, Hamilton has amassed a reputation as the ultimate provider of accurate timekeeping combined with stylish design. In 1912, the company began producing pocket watches so accurate that they earned the title of “The Watch of Railroad Accuracy.” This lead to the brand being bestowed with the prestigious rank of supplier to the US military at the outbreak of both world wars, and American involvement in the Second World War saw the pioneering Hamilton Marine Chronometer become an invaluable navigational tool for the U.S. Navy.

Hamilton in the post-war years has been defined by its unique and exclusive relationship with Hollywood. Beginning with the 1951 Frogman watch, Hamilton watches have featured in over 450 films, including on the wrist of Elvis Presley in 1961’s Blue Hawaii, in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and more recently in Interstellar and The Martian. In 2003, all production and the company headquarters were transferred to a state-of-the-art facility in Biel, Switzerland. Still a global force within the timepiece industry, Hamilton watches offer an unrivalled combination of storied American heritage, Swiss internal workings and a touch of Hollywood flair.
