Buyer's comment:

I am going to be careful what I say as I don't want my feedback to be removed, however I am very unhappy with my dealings with this trusted dealer. I have gone through ALL of the reviews of the company and there is a bit of a pattern I see. I purchased a vintage 1982 16750 Rolex. The watch was indeed an authentic Rolex. As with all the sellers listings for Rolex watches there is minimal information on the watches condition. There is NO information on any replacement parts of their vintage watches - which I believe is a violation of Chrono24 policy. When you deal with them, he will tell you a few things. He will almost certainly say the watch is MINT. This is a word you will commonly see in other reviews as well. To most people MINT would mean that watch was in near perfect condition. I can only speak to the condition of the watch I received, but I don't think anyone would consider my watch MINT. My watch was over polished. Quite significantly over polished actually. The Rolex symbol on the bracelet clasp had almost been completely polished off. My watch bracelet was stretched. I did ask about the bracelet stretch and he said there was 'hardly any'. My watch had service parts. There is the service bezel of course, which was not terribly surprising. But also a replacement date disc which my watchmaker thought did not look like a Rolex part. My watch had mismatched hands. Two of the hands (minute and second) are unusual that they do not lume, and they do not appear to be tritium. The other two hands had strong green lume, obviously replacement parts. My watch had not been serviced by Rolex since 1988 - there are small stamps inside that Rolex techs place after service, and that was the last one he could see. He will tell you that the watch will be serviced by his in-house watchmaker before being sent out. I tried to clarify what a 'service' means to him. I think 'service' means an inspection. I went to mediation on this watch as it was not as described, and certainly not MINT. They agreed to a very small partial refund, but not nearly enough. Fortunately Chrono24 stepped in on my behalf. One may say - "well just return the watch". I really would have preferred to do this, but once your in this situation you realize how problematic it is. Taxes and duty were already paid. Secondly, you will only get money back when the dealer receives the return and approves it. Finally, once you ship the watch back (at your own expense!) you have no watch, no money, and just a hope that the watch will make it back to the dealer. Try to insure a 20k watch. They will probably reply to this saying that it was MINT for vintage condition -- but MINT should not be conditional. They will probably say the watch was not over polished and look at the pictures -- but you won't be able to see them. TL/DR - If he says the watch is MINT it probably isn't. Maybe MINT means extra polished. Chrono24 took care of me in the end.

Dealer's comment:

From the beginning we answered all the questions the customer had regarding the watch. We did not have any information or indication that any parts of the watch had been replaced. Just because one watch maker “thinks” the date wheel may have been replaced does not mean it is fact. When speaking about vintage watches, you can take the watch to several watch makers and they all will have their own opinion about it. We shared our opinion with the customer prior to sending it to him and answered all questions he had about the watch prior to shipping it to him. We have been in business for over 20 years and own many vintage Rolex watches, we gave our professional opinion regarding this piece. We also never stated the watch was unpolished. We let the customer know that we did not have it polished when we got it in and even pointed out to the photos in the listing in which you can see the scratches on the bracelet and case (indicating that WE did not have it polished). We never said anything about the watch never being polished. Also, there are photos of the clasp where the Rolex crown is on the watch. The customer suggests the crown on the clasp is almost “polished” off which was never done by us. This watch is from 1982 and surely has been polished in its lifetime (just not by us). You can see the condition of the clasp in the photos provided in the listing. The watch was serviced prior to listing online for sale and was checked before sending out. Looking back at our messages we did clarify what a service did entail. When the customer received the watch he even sent us a message stating his watch maker luckily said the watch was in working condition and do not require service (because we already had done that). The customer wanted a partial refund of thousands of dollars to keep the watch. We were not able to accommodate the amount he requested which is why Chrono 24 had to step in on both of our behalf so we could reach an agreement which we did.

Buyer's comment:

The dealer did not state clearly that the dial was not original when advertised. When the watch was received, the dial was a poor copy with holes showing on the dial. However, the 'certificate' did say it was after market.

Buyer's comment:

I have bought 4 watches on chron24. The other three dealers were spot on and I gave them all five star reviews. Not this one however. Watch was a mess. Braclet had massive stretch that was not described. Had to spen over hkd 10k for a new bracelet. They say the watch was serviced but in fact was not. Needed to pay an extra hkd 4K so that it keeps good time. However, watch is authentic and original. And the dealer, to his credit, did offer to refund but by then I had already bought the new bracelet thinking everything else was fine. But the description of the watch was not correct. I cannot in good conscience recommend this dealer.
