Description |
Watch: Cyma Dirty Dozen British Military Watch
Stock Number: CHW4665 Price: £1995.00 This watch was being manufactured and issued to the British Army in early 1945. The broad arrow clearly marked and contract number P21537 and issue no. 26537. Marked on the waterproof back. Indices and hands in superb condition on the dial, case in superb order. There were 12 Swiss manufacturers of the WWW watches and as such, the collection is commonly referred to by collectors and dealers alike as “The Dirty Dozen”. Only around 20,000 Cyma WWW watches were made for the British Army during WW2. As such, good original examples of these watches are very sought after by collectors and can often be difficult to find. The WWW Dirty Dozen watches are perhaps the most popular and collectible watches amongst all those issued to the British Army. This is perhaps because they were the first to be specially designed and custom made for the British Army. WWW stands for Watch, Wrist, Waterproof and was the descriptive code used by the British Army to identify it as a piece of equipment. This is an excellent example which is still very much wearable and running well. We have worked very hard to bring you the best possible examples of these now hard to find timepieces. Of course they will have flaws they were a military watch that has seen service. Manual Wind operating from a 234 Calibre, thought to have been issued in 1944/45. Plexiglass, stainless steel case measuring just shy of 38mm in size. Many were placed under the Govt D notice for destruction, a few made it on to the civilian market which can be recognised by the two line strike through the issue number denoting DECOMISSIONED or all marks polished off the back returning it to sterile. However a few complete untouched examples made it to the civilian market to be retained in collections and the dusty corners. This watch part of a collection of 3 are believed to have been untouched for over 20 years. Further images and information available upon request. |
