Operating its functions is easy, as everything is done through the crown. And unlike the more ubiquitous Aerospace, it also has a rotating bezel with indications for cardinal degrees, by which it can be used as a compass. And further it can be helpful in calculating an airplane’s rate of climb or decent, distance in climb or descent and gasoline consumption if you happen to want it to do that while you're flying.
