Featuring a sturdy 42mm by 13.5mm steel construction and a professional-grade 500m dive rating, the watch is from its case inward is a capable tool watch with some distinct Breitling flare. Rounded, even softened edges on its thick lugs and protective crown guards distinguish the watch from offerings in the larger market, while a deeply toothed, boldened unidirectional diving bezel tops the case. The bezel in particular is important as its thick style is signature to the contemporary SuperOcean series, differing notably from both vintage styles at the collection's launch in the 1950s and iconic turn-of-the-century designs that still exist today in the brand's Chronomat and Avenger collections.

Continuing its bold streak, the SuperOcean on its dial opts for a highly legible style via its use of large, contrasting hour indices, each complemented with a smaller inner numeral ranging from 13 to 24 for quick 24-hour timekeeping. A small date window breaks up the style at the 3 o'clock position, adding some additional day-to-day functionality to the professional wearer, while a curved outer minute ring adds some dimensionality to the aesthetic. A Breitling caliber 17 powers the watch's tapered handset and arrow-pointer seconds counter, the automatic mechanism based upon the ETA 2824-2 and sharing its renowned reliability.
