Description

Widely thought to have been introduced in 1995, the Patek Philippe 5004 split-seconds chronograph perpetual calendar is one Patek’s grail watches. This very watch, whose Extract from the Archives shows as being sold in December of 1994, IS THE VERY FIRST 5004 EVER PRODUCED. Read about the history of the 5004, and you will learn about the serial number range for the first-series 5004 production – and yes, this is the first 5004 made. What an amazing opportunity for collectors.

The Patek Philippe reference 5004 features a split seconds chronograph (also known as rattrapante or double chronograph) paired with a perpetual calendar and moonphase complication. These are two of the most prestigious complications that a watch can have, but building on that, the 5004 achieves a rare gestalt, where the sum of the parts exceeds the individual components. The platinum watch case is just perfect in its lines and massive proportions. No wonder this is one of Patek Philippe's most treasured watches.

Case is platinum and is 37mm in diameter and 15mm thick. Front and display back sapphire crystals. Chronograph split seconds button is embedded in the winding crown. Pump style chronograph pushers. Case is extremely clean and crisp.

Fascinatingly, the case is different from other 5004s. The lugs are shorter and the while the case has the same width as the later watches, it is more bowed in the center. Collectors have called the 5004 “the hamburger” for its shape and proportions; this watch, then, might be considered a quarter pounder.

Dial is silver with applied arabic numerals and feuille style hands. The day and month are shown in the apertures below 12 o'clock; the 3 o'clock subdial displays the leap year cycle and chronograph 30 minute totalizer; 6 o'clock subdial displays the moonphase and date; 9 o'clock subdial displays constant seconds and 24 hour time.

Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber CHR 27-70Q with 28 jewels, 10 bridges, Gyromax balance, beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, 60 hour power reserve, Breguet balance spring and 407 individual parts. Stamped with the Geneva Seal.

Watch is new on a black Patek Philippe alligator strap with platinum Patek buckle. Watch will be delivered with Patek box and its Extract from the Archives witnessing its 1994 production and sale. This is an astounding opportunity to own an extremely important Patek Philippe wristwatch!
