The Patek Philippe 2499 is the perpetual calendar chronograph to own—and none is more desirable than that of the 2nd series with Arabic numbers. Patek invented this pairing of complications and has produced numerous models. All are nice and all are collectable. However, the 2499 is exalted to a special status. And, I dare say, you are looking at perhaps the best 2499 any of us can hope to see.

This second series 2499 has an original indelible untouched dial—the early style dial with applied Arabic numerals that now boast a warm patina. The 1st and very few of the 2nd series 2499s share the same early style tachometer dial as the reference 1518, the first Patek perpetual calendar chronograph. There are presently only 9 know 2499s of this rare variety.

Condition of this watch is absolutely incredible—especially given that the watch is now close to 50 years old! Overall, the original18k gold case shows little wear and is in mint+ condition. The steps on the lugs are undimished and as sharp as the day this watch left the factory in the mid-1960’s. Case is 37mm in diameter with round pushers, which made their debut on the second series 2499, and acrylic crystal and snap on case back. Oversized winding crown.

Original golden feuille hands, apertures for day and month along with moonphase cut out with surrounding date scale. Chronograph totalizer subdial adjacent to 3 o’clock. The chronograph subdial hand and center-mounted chronograph seconds hand are blued. Dial also has seconds chapter and tachymetre scale at its periphery.

Original and immaculate Patek Philippe manual winding Caliber 13’’’ with 23 jewels, 8 adjustments and column wheel construction. As can be seen in the picture, the movement is as pristine as it was when it left the factory. This is a watch that has been tended to well over the years.

Watch is accompanied by Extract from the Archives depicting the details of the dial and describing the Arabic numerals. This watch, as confirmed by the Extract was first sold on September 6, 1968.
