Classic Fusion: Hublot's Classic Sports Watch

The Classic Fusion is the most sophisticated member in the Hublot family. It is more refined than the Swiss manufacturer's other luxury watches, though it maintains the typical porthole design. Top models feature a tourbillon and minute repeater.

By Chrono24

A Luxury Watch for Every Occasion

The Classic Fusion collection from Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Hublot blends the modern aesthetic of the Big Bang series with the simple elegance of the Classic line. While largely inspired by early Hublot models from the 1980s, the Classic Fusion stays true to the manufacturer's fusion concept, combining contrasting – and sometimes unusual – materials like titanium, carbon, and ceramic with gold, rubber, and leather. What's more, this collection bridges the gap between the vintage pieces of past decades and the distinctive sports watches of today. The Classic Fusion suits almost any dress code, be it casual or black tie.

However, this collection has much more to offer than just eye-catching designs. Premium models like the Classic Fusion Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater boast highly complicated movements. As its name implies, this particular timepiece comes with a tourbillon and a minute repeater. Other highlights include the Classic Fusion Orlinski Tourbillon and the Aerofusion Moonphase. While the former has a faceted case and intricately skeletonized in-house movement with a tourbillon, the latter features a pointer date and moon phase display. The technological marvels don't end there: certain Hublot calibers offer power reserves of up to eight days.

The collection is also home to the Classic Fusion Chronograph with a stopwatch function and the Classic Fusion Automatic. The Automatic is among the collection's simplest and most affordable models. With cases ranging from 33 to 45 mm in diameter, the Classic Fusion is a great choice for all wrist sizes.

Several Classic Fusion models have been known to retain their value or even appreciate in price. The more affordable three-hand watches such as the Classic Fusion Green and Classic Fusion Automatic increased in value between November 2020 and November 2022. The same can be said for the most expensive timepieces in the series, like the Classic Fusion Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater.

Reasons to Buy a Hublot Classic Fusion

  • Recognizable luxury sports watch
  • Top models with tourbillons and minute repeaters
  • Power reserves of up to 8 days
  • Cases made of titanium, ceramic, carbon, or gold
  • Timeless porthole design that suits almost any attire

How much does a Hublot Classic Fusion cost?

For around 2,000 USD, you can buy a pre-owned Hublot Classic Fusion with three hands and a quartz movement. A pre-owned Classic Fusion 3-Hands model with an automatic caliber, like the titanium ref. 565.NX.1470.RX, will cost you closer to 5,000 USD. New examples change hands for around 6,100 USD. If you're in the market for a Classic Fusion chronograph such as the titanium ref. 541.NO.1181.LR, be prepared to spend roughly 11,500 USD for a mint-condition timepiece. Watches crafted from precious metals are more expensive by nature, so the Classic Fusion Aerofusion ref. 525.OX.0180.LR made of King Gold will require an investment around the 30,000 USD mark. Gold models with a moon phase complication push 40,000 USD. The Classic Fusion Chronograph Tourbillon Skeleton ref. 506.OX.0180.LR in King Gold demands upward of 70,000 USD, while the Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater made of carbon has a price tag of over 200,000 USD.

Classic Fusion 3-Hands: Prices & Details

Hublot's simplest timepieces belong to the Classic Fusion 3-Hands line. Their designs are largely reminiscent of the manufacturer's very first watches. Defining features include a round case, integrated lugs, and a "porthole" bezel with six decorative, H-shaped screws. The dial focuses on functionality and lacks any frills. It has applied bar indices, a date display at 3 o'clock, and the brand logo. Watches with an automatic movement also bear the inscription "Automatic" on their dials. In terms of dial color, you can choose from black, white, blue, green, and gray.

The Classic Fusion 3-Hands is also available in a number of materials, including titanium, ceramic, and Hublot's proprietary rose gold, called King Gold. Thanks to its platinum content, King Gold has a striking reddish hue that won't fade over time. The manufacturer also offers two-tone versions of this watch. The more classic variant pairs titanium with King Gold, and the more modern edition combines black ceramic with the same shimmering precious metal. Those with more glamorous tastes should consider one of the Pavé models with diamonds on their bezels and cases.

The Classic Fusion 3-Hands comes in four different sizes. The 42 and 45-mm editions are primarily intended as men's watches, while the 33 and 38-mm models are great for more slender wrists. Prices for the larger versions begin around 6,400 USD.This amount will get you a 42-mm titanium case paired with a leather strap. Classic Fusion models with 42-mm ceramic cases like the Black Magic cost around 7,600 USD new.

Two-tone versions are more costly. Expect to spend around 10,000 USD on a 42-mm ceramic watch with a King Gold bezel. When it comes to Classic Fusion models made of King Gold or those featuring diamonds, prices will jump again. The version flaunting a diamond-studded bezel costs roughly 21,000 USD, and the Pavé edition closer to 27,000 USD. The Classic Fusion 3-Hands with smaller diameters are only marginally less expensive.

Classic Fusion 40 Years Anniversary

In September 2020, Hublot celebrated 40 years since their first watch debuted with a special-edition Classic Fusion model. The Classic Fusion 40 Years Anniversary is 45 mm in diameter and shares its case design with that of the 3-Hands line. Hublot crafts these anniversary models out of titanium, ceramic, and King Gold and pairs them with a rubber strap.

The main difference between these timepieces and standard three-hand Classic Fusions is their dials. Whereas the 3-Hands' dial is decidedly modest, the limited edition's black lacquer dial is downright spartan. There are no indices, and the only points of reference are the date at 3 and the applied logo at 12 o'clock.

Listings for the titanium version of the Classic Fusion 40 Years Anniversary on Chrono24 come in at around 12,000 USD.

The Classic Fusion Chronograph

The Classic Fusion collection also contains high-end chronographs. These 42 and 45-mm timepieces cut a fine figure on more sizable wrists. In terms of case material, you can choose from titanium, King Gold, ceramic, or two-tone versions. These watches feature remarkably tidy dials despite their chronograph function. Each has a bicompax design with a small seconds at 3 and a 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock. A date display at 6 o'clock balances the dial nicely.

The 45-mm version is powered by the HUB1143 caliber, while the smaller variant houses the HUB4302. Both calibers are based on ETA movements with automatic winding and a 42-hour power reserve.

The 42-mm Classic Fusion Chronograph made of titanium on a leather or rubber strap costs around 8,600 USD. If you would rather pair it with a titanium bracelet, expect prices to rise to roughly 9,600 USD.

Black ceramic models also change hands for roughly 9,600 USD, while you'll need about 22,000 USD on hand for a Classic Fusion chronograph crafted from King Gold on a leather or rubber strap. Listings on Chrono24 for this model on a King Gold bracelet in mint condition hover at around 33,000 USD.

The 45-mm versions of the Classic Fusion Chronograph are only somewhat more expensive.

The Aerofusion With a Skeletonized Dial

The Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion is another of the manufacturer's most desirable luxury watches. Its most striking feature is the skeletonized HUB1155 movement, which is based on the ETA 2892 with a chronograph module. You can view the intricate movement at work through the sapphire glass dial on both the front and back. This 45-mm watch comes in titanium, ceramic, or King Gold, either with or without diamonds. As for the band, you have the choice between a metal bracelet, ceramic bracelet, leather strap, and rubber strap.

Plan to spend at least 12,500 USD on a titanium timepiece mounted on a leather strap. A titanium bracelet will push prices up by a further 780 USD. The gold version on a King Gold link bracelet requires an investment of almost 40,500 USD.

Prices for the Aerofusion Black Magic in black ceramic run between 13,500 and 15,500 USD, depending on the band you pair it with. You can save over 1,000 USD by opting instead for the Aerofusion UEFA Champions League. Hublot crafts these watches from blue ceramic and mounts them on a matching blue rubber strap.

Fans of diamond-studded watches will also find several appealing options in the Aerofusion series. Hublot offers gold and titanium versions of this chronograph with glittering gemstones on their bezels and cases. Prices depend on the number of diamonds and range from 17,500 to 34,500 USD.

The Many Facets of the Orlinski

The Classic Fusion Orlinski series is the result of a collaboration between Hublot and French neo-pop artist Richard Orlinski. A native Parisian, Orlinski is most famous for his colorful sculptures depicting wild animals. He brought his distinctive faceted style to the Classic Fusion, resulting in a truly unique line of timepieces.

Three-hand Classic Fusion Orlinski watches measure 40 mm in diameter and stand out with their striking dials. The case's faceted design continues onto the dial, lending it a wonderful sense of depth. The titanium model costs about 10,000 USD, while the King Gold version sells for approximately 19,500 USD. Each is also available as a Pavé edition with diamonds. These models demand 18,000 and 27,500 USD, respectively.

In spring 2021, Hublot unveiled two ceramic versions of the Classic Fusion Orlinski. One of these models features a black case, dial, and rubber strap, while these elements are blue on the other. Both timepieces are powered by the Hublot HUB1100 caliber, an upgraded Sellita SW300. You can expect to see the black version selling for around 12,500 USD on the secondary market and the blue Classic Fusion Orlinski for about 12,300 USD.

This series is also home to the Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski with a stopwatch function. The models in red, green, or blue ceramic are among the most interesting takes on this design and change hands for between 15,000 and 19,500 USD. The titanium version costs roughly 18,500 USD. At around 43,500 USD, the King Gold edition with diamonds is over twice as expensive.

The line's premium model is the Classic Fusion Tourbillon 5-Days Power Reserve Orlinski. Hublot equips this timepiece with the manual in-house caliber HUB6021. Sapphire crystal on the front and back gives the wearer a detailed look at the skeletonized movement with a tourbillon at 6 o'clock. Fully wound, this movement's power reserve clocks in at 115 hours, or just shy of five days. The version with a black ceramic case will set you back about 72,000 USD, while the model in 18-karat King Gold sells for around 77,000 USD.

Classic Fusion With a Moon Phase Display

The Classic Fusion Aerofusion Moonphase is also available in a 42 or 45-mm case. As its name suggests, this watch features a moon phase display. It also has a skeletonized dial and movement. More specifically, it gets its power from a modified Sellita SW300-1, which Hublot refers to as the HUB1131. The moon phase display shares its position at 6 o'clock with a pointer date. There's also a window with a combined day and month display just below 12 o'clock.

The most affordable Classic Fusion Moonphase models come in titanium and cost an average of 13,000 USD. Ceramic timepieces demand only slightly more at 14,500 USD. You can find versions with a gold case for around 28,500 USD on Chrono24. Lastly, watches with diamonds cost approximately 32,000 USD.

Ferrari GT, Berluti, and Cruz Diez

Hublot has shared a close partnership with the Italian luxury car brand Ferrari for many years. The Classic Fusion Ferrari GT is one result of this relationship. Its design is unlike any of the collection's other watches and bears a strong resemblance to a sports car's dashboard. Furthermore, the Ferrari GT is the only Classic Fusion to feature a Hublot Unico caliber. This family of movements sets itself apart with its modular construction. Hublot outfits the Ferrari GT's caliber with a flyback chronograph function. Both the caliber and dial are skeletonized. The titanium edition is limited to a run of 1,000 pieces and costs about 16,000 USD. You'll also find models in King Gold or carbon fiber. Limited to runs of 500 pieces, these watches sell for 32,500 and 28,500 USD, respectively.

Hublot also maintains a longstanding relationship with the storied shoe brand Berluti. The Classic Fusion Berluti takes the company's fusion concept to the next level, using high-quality Venezia leather not only for the strap but also for the dial. The dial's indices, logo, and "Automatic" inscription are all directly stamped into the leather. The final result is a stunning, rustic aesthetic. This 45-mm timepiece is available as a three-hand watch or a bicompax chronograph in your choice of gold, titanium, or ceramic. Prices depend on the exact model and range from 12,000 to 29,000 USD.

The Classic Fusion Cruz Diez debuted in late 2019 and is the collection's most colorful member. It pays tribute to Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, who passed away in mid-2019. Cruz-Diez was fascinated by how we perceive color and was one of the most important members of the optical art movement. The Classic Fusion Cruz Diez is a new take on the style made famous by the artist's Chromointerférence series. The dial consists of two discs featuring a pattern designed by Cruz-Diez himself. Powered by the HUB1112 caliber, the discs rotate independently of one another, constantly changing how the lines and colors interact. Like most Classic Fusion watches, the Cruz Diez is available in titanium, ceramic, or King Gold. Hublot offers models with a 38 or 45-mm case. You can purchase one of these timepieces for between 9,000 and 20,000 USD.

Minute Repeaters, Tourbillons, and More

The Hublot Classic Fusion Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater was part of the Classic Fusion collection until 2019 and is easily the series' most complicated watch to date. Thanks to its minute repeater, it can express the time acoustically on demand. Another impressive feature is the tourbillon at 6 o'clock, which lends this timepiece its exceptional accuracy. The 45-mm case is available in titanium, King Gold, or carbon. Prices range from around 187,000 USD for titanium models to 218,000 USD for those in rose gold. Carbon versions sit in the middle at 211,000 USD.

The Classic Fusion Tourbillon lacks a minute repeater and is available with a skeletonized dial or as an "Open Heart" model with an aperture for the tourbillon at 6 o'clock. You can call a titanium Open Heart watch your own for about 33,000 USD. On the other hand, the titanium Skeleton edition sells for roughly 56,000 USD. The King Gold versions cost an additional 3,100 and 4,200 USD, respectively. Hublot also produces this watch with a chronograph function. Depending on the exact model, these timepieces can demand anywhere from 59,000 to 72,500 USD.

If you can do without intricate complications, the Classic Fusion Ultra Thin may just be the right watch for you. This especially flat three-hand timepiece is available with a 42 or 45-mm case and has a small seconds at 7 o'clock. Both its movement and dial are skeletonized. The final watch measures just 2.9 mm in height and costs between 14,500 and 25,000 USD.
