Sports Watches for a Sporting Chance

Sports watches aren't just watches that athletes use while training or playing sports. If your image of a sports watch is a rubber and plastic digital device, then you're thinking in the wrong direction. Sportswatches are finely designed mechanical watches with a sporting flair. They're often worn as dress watches because, while their design is more practical than "true" dress watches, they can be just as expensive and exclusive, but they're so much more. More...

Sports Watches - Multifunctional for Multiple Activities

You may be familiar with subsets of the set of sports watches, like diving watches. Sports watches need some functions in addition to those found on "normal" wristwatches - for instance, they need to be chronographic. With added stopwatch functionality, it's possible to time events and evaluate sporting performance. Not only digital but mechanical watches as well can achieve this, often with several dials to track different aspects of time.

Sports watches are also often water resistant. Even if they don't approach the degree of impermeability required of diving watches, sports watches are still usable - and useful - for sports like swimming. They're able to maintain accuracy despite the range of motion they experience during, for example, several lanes swum freestyle. This example brings up another point - a good sports watch needs to be resistant to shock and impact, it needs to be an able-bodied companion on the court, on the field, in the pool, in the shower and then on the dance floor or at the bar.

Other sports watches may also be certified chronometers - if you require precision accuracy, they're excellent choices. Since they're tested in multiple positions and at different temperatures, you can be reasonably certain that they'll hold up well as they accompany you on your active lifestyle.

Sports Watches as Marks of Distinction

The type of watch you wear sends a signal about the type of person you are or want to be. By selecting a fine mechanical sports watch, you send the message that you're a rugged, active individual who is also refined and experienced enough to appreciate the kind of engineering and attention to detail that such a device requires.

Where anyone can select a digital watch with a stopwatch, etc., only a true adult knows how to get the same benefits from a properly selected sports watch. With a single accessory, you can declare that you're comfortable on the ballfield and in the boardroom, which is certainly not something that everyone can say of themselves.

Runners may also benefit from sports watches, since they'll be able to time their intervals or runs and note their stats after they're through working out.

Caring for Sports Watches is like caring for Athletes

Of course, if you're really going to use sports watches as more than a fashion statement, you'll have to make sure that you take proper care of it. Since it's a mechanical device, no matter how resilient it is, it will still be susceptible to hard knocks and exposure to conditions or depths outside its range of tolerance. To keep sports watches in tip top condition, they, like any athlete, need a cool down and some TLC after a particularly tough day.
