This rare, self-winding Speake-Marin Piccadilly in stainless steel from 2007 comes as a full set, and has perfect mechanical functionality. This is a very special Piccadilly as it has a rare frosted dial, and is the third one ever made (No. 3).
The look of the watch is classically in the Speake-Marin style, with its Piccadilly case having protruding screwed lugs, a fluted crown and a circular drum like case shape. The Piccadilly case shape was inspired by the movement holders Peter Speake-Marin worked with while at Renaud & Papi early in his career and its name is a tribute, deriving from his time restoring watches at Somlo located in the Burlington Arcade off Piccadilly in London.
The center of this Speake-Marin is recessed and frosted, while the outer part of the dial has engraved Breguet numerals on brushed steel. This special dial was designed and made by Kees Engelbarts, a Dutch dial engraver that has been commissioned by various high-end Swiss watch brands and is well known for his work.
Powering the watch is a heavily modified, hybrid movement based on an ETA ebauche. While it is based on this, the bridges, motion gears, setting lever spring, mainplate and rotor wheel have all been replaced. It has a large balance for precision and is a movement known for its solid construction. Furthermore, the distinctive custom designed rotor wheel, inspired from Peter Speake-Marin’s topping tool has become one of the manufactures most recognisable signatures.
Sized at 42mm with a thickness of 13.5mm, the watch has a tremendous presence on the wrist, balancing thickness with a conservative and elegant size.
The watch is in overall excellent condition and comes with its original black alligator strap and Speake-Marin tang buckle.
