This vintage, stainless steel Omega Speedmaster ‘Ed White’ 105.003-65 has recently been serviced and is in excellent working condition. It comes with an Extract from the Archives by Omega, confirming that the watch was produced on the 29th November 1967, and delivered to the United Kingdom.
Sized at 40mm, the Pre-Professional Speedmasters, such as this ‘Ed White’, are most easily differentiated by the straight lug cases used, and by the absence of crown guards, compared to the later, twisted bombe lugs.
This example specifically, is in incredible condition and as such, makes for a very rare watch. The case remains sharp, with its bevels strongly visible and the case back Hippocampus engraving is still deep, suggesting that this watch has not been worn much in its lifetime.
Furthermore, is has its original "skinny logo" Omega crown and the crystal has the Omega logo at the centre. This watch comes with its Dot Over 90 tachymeter bezel, which is in excellent condition.
This ‘Ed White’ Speedmaster has its original tritium ‘stepped’ dial in excellent condition and features a raised Omega logo. The patina on the hour markers has aged evenly to a yellow cream colour, which matches the hands perfectly.
Powered by the famous Calibre 321, a column-wheel chronograph movement that is heralded to be one of the greatest ever produced. All Pre-Professional Speedmasters utilised this high-end calibre before Omega eventually switched to the more economical, non-column wheel Cal. 861.
Colloquially referred to as the "Ed White" Speedmaster, the watch was worn by NASA Astronaut Edward White, when he became the first man to walk in space.
The watch comes with an Omega ‘1035’ flat link bracelet marked '1-71', and after-market ‘6’ end-links.
