This rare, 15-jewel manual-winding, steel Omega Marine Standard (ref. CK 3635) pre-owned watch is in fantastic, vintage condition and has excellent mechanical functionality. It comes in its original Omega box and is guaranteed for authenticity.
In 1939, Omega introduced the Marine Standard, a rectangular, waterproof watch and it became the first calibre, shaped for water-resistance. In homage to Omega's first ever waterproof diver's watch, the Marine, they named it 'Marine Standard' to indicate it was to be part of the standard production, and not a specialised piece. The Marine Standard also used the Baumgartner system that made the original 1932 Marine airtight. However it had a major practical improvement on the Marine; the crown was placed on the outside of the case. Thus it was no longer necessary to remove the watch from its waterproof case in order to wind it.
This early example of the Omega Marine Standard is from circa 1940. Encased within a stainless steel Tank case, it measure 22 mm in width and 38 mm in length, including the straight lugs. The back case is engraved with 'WATERPROOF' and the serial number, meanwhile the inside bears the Omega hallmark, the patent numbers and the stainless steel mark. The Calibre T 17, rectangular in shape, is a 15-jewel manual-winding movement. It is also signed by Omega.
The cream dial has rectangular, painted minute markers and black, painted Arabic numerals. The Omega symbol and name are referenced at twelve o'clock. The sub-seconds dial is placed at six o-clock, with 'SWISS MADE' referenced underneath. The hour-and minute Dauphine hands, are late 1950s replacements. The watch has a beautiful Art Deco look and feel. This vintage Marine Standard comes on a brown leather strap, with an Omega-signed vintage tang buckle.
