Echoing the history of the glorious past, the IWC introduced the Portuguese line in 1939. The timepiece with an accurate precision and complicated mechanism has caught the gaze of the watch collectors across the world. The IWC Portuguese has become the source of enthusiasm in the watch world for the past 70 years.
Designed for the harsh stormy weather and deep sea waters, the IWC Portuguese released the Yacht Club Automatic in 1967 at the Basel Watch Fair. With a spring suspended movement supported by the rubbers buffers, it doubled the shock resistance. The timepiece was available in two versions: steel and gold. The steel version was made to resist the waters up to 10 bars while the gold version resisted the waters till 6 bars.
To commemorate the 125th anniversary of IWC in1993, the IWC relaunched the special edition of the IWC Portuguese timepiece after 50 years of its origin. Featuring the IWC manufactured 5000 calibre, IWC disclosed the Portuguese Automatic in the year 2000.
Following the IWC Portuguese tradition, the Portuguese fashion line assimilates a collection of high end timepieces. The Portuguese Perpetual Calendar marks a special position in the collection exhibiting a great appeal of stylish and classy fashion statement.
Styled with a 42.3mm case, the look of the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar is fashioned with a look similar to the Ingenieur timepieces but the PC timepieces are light in weight compared to the Ingenieur. With an 18 K red gold case, the exquisite appeal of the watch is well complemented with the alligator brown leather strap. The deployment holding on the strap is also equipped with a red gold clasp.
With a 7 day power reserve in its house, the Portuguese PC also features a minute, hour, day, date and small seconds. It also incorporates a four digit digital year projected on the dial. With an anti reflective coating, the working of the watch can be viewed with the sapphire crystal glass.
Powered with the IWC calibre 51613 accompanied with Pellaton automatic winding, the watch comes with a water resistance capacity up to 3 bars. With the odd day numbers imprinted on the dial, the even day numbers are marked with dots. A sub dial at 3 displays the date on the outer ring with the sub dial at 9 projecting the day indicator. Displaying the month in an abbreviated three letter form at the sub dial 6, the wristlet has been embellished with a moonphase in the sub dial placed at 12.
