IWC Pilots Watch Vintage Collection Manual SS
Owing to the rarity of the wrist watches designed exclusively for flying, the pilots had to carry pocket watches in the early aviation days. With the growing demand, the IWC developed a “Special Pilot Watch” in 1936. The first IWC Pilot watch came with a rugged glass followed by a rotating bezel and other specific features.
From 1940 onwards following the military specifications, the IWC started the manufacturing of 52 T.S.C Big Pilot Watch. Keeping in line with the navigation watches, the IWC Pilot was one of the biggest wristwatches manufactured under the IWC flagship
Revitalizing the IWC Pilot tradition, the watchmakers continued the lineage with a Pilot Chronograph developed in 1988. IWC unveiled the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph with an automatic winding in 1994. Recognizing one of the most important bonds, the IWC released a special edition in 2008: Pilot’s Watches for Father and Son. Cased with an exquisite finishing, it came in two versions of platinum and stainless steel.
Often taken as a complicated timepiece in the watch world, the IWC Pilot makes the watchmaking art touch new zeniths. The highly mechanized watches have been designed with passion without compromising with the style.
With the various timepieces incorporated in the IWC Pilot series, the IWC Big Pilot watch marks a special position in the entire Pilot collection. With a clearly noticeable huge dial placed on the watch surface, the size doesn’t affect the elegance and grace of the watch. The big dial size is well complemented with the other features of the watch like the case, hands and the rubber strap running through the watch.
Crafted with a great zeal for perfection, the most beautiful part that embellishes the IWC Pilot collection is the diamond crown in the Big Pilot timepiece. The stunning look of the crown is enhanced with the smooth winding and perfect engineering.
Designed in line with the pilot watches tradition, the dial of the Big Pilot is a perfect shape and size desired for a pilot’s watch. With a double AR coated sapphire crystal, the case has received an absolute finishing from the watchmakers. The black date wheel in the dial elevates the style statement considered in the making of the watch. The bezels have also received a fine polishing giving a gleaming presence to the timepiece.
The tinges of elegance can be felt with the alligator styled style rubber strap which runs through the timepiece. Featuring an IWC calibre 51111 movement, the Big Pilot houses a power reserve up to 6 days.
