Case Shape and Material: Round shape 18k solid gold hunter case 50mm in diameter. Case is in good condition with box hinge bezel and back cover and inner dust cover all of which open and close properly. Case front and back are machine engraved with floral decorations but have small square area of hand-engraved scenes. Front has small village scene and back cover has small house, back also has open cartouche which has not been monogrammed. Inner front cover is hallmarked with the number 18 for the American 18k gold assay mark of the late 19th century and bears an Eagle makers mark and the serial number 86357. Back cover opens to reveal a photographic portrait of a young girl (perhaps the owners daughter) overlayed onto the inner dust cover (cuvette). Inner back cover and cuvette also marked with the serial number 86357. The entire watch weighs 99 grams. I estimate that the movement dial and hands weigh about 65 grams and the crystal and case spring another 5 grams leaving the 18k gold content of 30 grams or $800-$900.

Notes: Mens size Elgin 18s 15 Jewel pocket watch in 18k solid gold American made hunter case circa 1887. Watch winds, sets, runs well and keeps time and is ready to wear. Based on the total weight of 99 grams I estimate the watch to contain approximately 30 grams of 18k gold with a melt value of $800-$900. Gold purity has been verified by a professional jeweler.
